It is the age old question: Just how do you eat breadsticks and butter?

Is it considered rude to simply bite off a chunk? Can you dip straight it into the butter or should you delicately use a knife to add a dollop onto the end of your breadstick?

According to the bread and butter experts, the proper manner is to hold the breadstick with both hands over a plate and break off a bite-size piece.

To add the butter, you should then hold the broken-off piece in your left hand and, using the butter knife in your right hand, apply a small amount of butter to the end.

But you are not done yet! Remember to put the bread knife back down on the plate with the blade facing you and then put your right hand in your lap. Now you may eat your carefully buttered breadstick.
