Butter Soft
Butter Curls
Recipes often call for softened butter, but our butter is usually kept cold in the fridge and is a long way from soft!

Softened butter is different to melted butter, so this process is not as simple as sticking a cold stick of butter into the microwave for a few minutes. So how exactly do you soften butter? Here are a few quick and easy ideas:

Soften butter by grating it. Grate the butter into a bowl where the tiny strips will reach room temperature fairly quickly. This works particularly well for butter that has been frozen.

Use a glass bowl and some warm water. Simply chop the butter into small squares and put it in a glass bowl. Rest the glass bowl into a pan with warm, but not boiling water. The water will heat the glass and soften the butter.

Make a butter dome. Fill a glass bowl with hot water and let it sit for a few minutes. Empty out the water and place the heated bowl updside down over some strips of butter. The insulated heat will soften the butter in no time.

Go curly. Heat a butter curler under hot water and use it to create some butter curls. These are thin and will soften in no time.
