Buttery Cats
Blog Entry: Monday 04 Oct 2010
It is often said that you should coat your cat’s paws in butter when you move to a new home. Some people say this is because your cat will immediately sit down to lick it off instead of rushing out the front door, giving itself time to adjust.
Others argue that when it licks off the butter, it also removes any traces of its old home and territory and with it the desire to go back there.
You can also smear a little butter on kittens when you are trying to get a new mum to foster them She will be unable to resist licking off the delicious butter and inadvertently puts her own scent on the kitten making her more likely to accept it.
Butter is also argued to be one of the best treatments for hair balls in cats. Cats love the taste and butter is a natural lubricant for the throat while also helping make the gall bladder contract and empty bile. This acts as a mild laxative, which helps prevent uncomfortable hair balls.
