Butter Can Be Part of a Healthy Diet
Real butter is part of a healthy, balanced diet
Yesterday’s call for a ban on butter from UK heart surgeon, Shyam Kolvekar, has caused nationwide debate and our daily twitter feed has been churning over your thoughts...

“Chemical laden marg cannot possibly be better or healthier than butter,” tweeted Victoria S. “Are they really trying to ban butter?...stupid” tweeted claude_samuel.

The Dairy Council have officially responded to Dr Kolvekar’s outcry: “Calls for a ban on butter belong to the bad old days of knee-jerk nutritional science.”

“Consumers are well aware that butter contains fat, so they tend to enjoy it in small amounts because it’s natural and because they like the taste and texture,” said Dairy Council Director, Dr Judith Bryans.

The Government’s Food Standards Agency advises: “It’s OK to eat a small amount of butter as part of a healthy balanced diet.”

“It is all about balance,” the Dairy Council concludes. “The idea that any one food should be banned does not fit with global or with UK nutrition policy.”
