The American Iowa State Fair is world famous for its celebration of good food, but most importantly it is all about the butter statues...

The Fair usually features a Butter Cow that is painstakingly crafted from a wire and wood frame and then over 600lbs of real butter. The Butter Cow measures over 8 feet long and stand over 5 foot tall – that translates to roughly enough butter for 19,200 slices of toast!

This year, the Iowa State Fair Butter Cow will share the stage with a few other creatures, mainly those from Dr. Seuss’ Green Eggs and Ham. This year marks the book’s 50th anniversary and to celebrate, butter sculptor Sarah Pratt plans to tell the whole story – in butter.

If you are lucky enough to get to visit the fair, you’ll find the Green Eggs and Ham characters and the Butter Cow in the Agriculture Building’s 40-degree cooler from the 12th of August right through until the 22nd. And don’t forget to send us a picture!
