Passion, Fearlessness and Butter
Blog Entry: Wednesday 15 Jul 2009
Julie & Julia is a heady mixture of food, relationships, and writing, unraveling parallel true stories, about a half century apart, of 60’s culinary queen Julia Child and Julie Powell, an unknown blogger from New York who decides to cook all the recipes in Julia’s book ‘Mastering the Art of French Cooking’.
Their lives are intertwined even though the women are separated by time and space…until they discover that with the right combination of passion, fearlessness and butter, anything is possible!
‘It’s a foodie movie with lots of mouth-watering food scenes (starring butter)!’ says food columnist Debbie Puente. ‘Julia’s classic recipe, Beef Bourguignon, plays a prominent role in the movie. It’s a wonderful dish, and actually very simple to make – even though the instructions are long. It’s really just wordy. Always remember to use a wine you’d drink – not a cooking wine. As the beef is combined with braised onions and sauteed mushrooms, all that is needed to fill out the meal is good bread…buttered of course.’
Julie & Julie opens in the UK on 11 September. Click here to read Debbie Puente’s full review and to see Julia’s Beef Bourguignon recipe.
