Share a Cow, Make Butter
Blog Entry: Friday 29 Jan 2010
In many American states it is illegal to sell raw milk, so if you wanted to make your own pure butter you would have to own a cow or two which can become rather expensive. That’s why many people participate in ‘herd-share’ schemes where you own shares in a farmer’s cow herd.
From there you can get all the fresh milk you want to make real, raw homemade butter. And it is really not a hard process!
Simply half fill a jar with cream and shake vigorously for up to 20 minutes (think of the arm workout!). Once the butter has started to form marble-like shapes, pour out the buttermilk, replace with some water and shake two or three times. Then simply strain the mixture and knead into neat homemade butter balls.
Simple as that!
