Take a Pie Risk
Get creative with pies this week. Photo by HFB.
National Pie Week is a time to get adventurous with your pastry and try something new… and a little more unusual!

We tracked down five of the stranger pies made around the world – be brave and give one a try this week!

Funeral Pie – The name might be a bit off-putting, but this is actually a rather tasty pie filled with raisins. Originally it was made as a token to take to a funeral because raisins were always readily available and the pie didn’t need refrigeration.

Cheeseburger Pie – While this may sound like simply a burger patty with cheese wrapped in pastry, it is actually an elaborate affair of beef mince, cheese, tomatoes and pastry.

Peanut Butter Pie – Think an odd combination of cream cheese, peanut butter, sugar, whipped cream and a cracker crust. Otherwise known as a calorie-fest.

Shoofly Pie – A traditional Amish pie, this pie got its name from when the cook had to “shoo away the flies” from the cooling sweet pastry. It is basically a coffee cake with a gooey molasses bottom.

Arbroath Pie – This UK specialty is filled with milky scrambled eggs and Arbroath Smokie. Addictive if you get it as it comes out the oven.
