The 2009 Butter Mooooon Walk!
Blog Entry: Wednesday 12 Aug 2009
The butter cow has been a tradition at the Iowa State Fair since 1911 and following the retirement of legendary butter sculptor Norma “Duffy” Lyon who created 45 years of butter masterpieces, 29 year old teacher Sarah Pratt is the new butter sculptress in town.
Sarah’s a natural with butter having helped Duffy with the sculptures when she was just 13. Her grandson Todd helped her to create the 2009 butter cow, which is a Jersey requiring about 500lbs of butter, with another 500lbs for the world’s first butter astronaut, Neil Armstrong!
Friends of Butter should not worry about the waste of such precious material as it is re-used for different sculptures for several years until it goes bad.
The 2009 Iowa State Fair is held from 13th-23rd August.
