The Perfect Pasty
The traditional tasty pasty
This week's British Pie Awards have found that Britain's best Cornish pasty actually comes from Devon and the winning recipe is simply the best, natural ingredients, particularly real butter.

Judges awarded the Chunk of Devon the winner of the country’s best Cornish pasty on the basis of taste, appearance, texture, size, pastry and ingredients, as reported in today’s Daily Mail.

The decision infuriated Cornish pie makers who claim that true Cornish pasties can only come from Cornwall. While organisers admit they made a mistake in allowing the Devonshire entrants to take part, the blind taste test cannot be contested.

Chunk of Devon managing director, Simon Bryon-Edmond, 47, defended their title: ‘We were the underdogs in the competition but we know our pasty is a winner. We use the best ingredients, sourced from Devon, it is all local and all free range and there are no additives whatsoever – and we use butter rather than margarine. We like everything to be as natural as possible.’

  2. I agree that real natural ingredients make a great pasty and it definitely has to be real butter pastry, but the best Cornish pasties are from Cornwall!!!!
